Hermiline's Garden

The Biological engineer Hermiline Blake with five of her children, her husband Rovel, and her maiden Lilly. Hermiline has three more children on the way. This makes Lilly a very welcome addition to this family. This drawing is another done in the spirit of the Alchemist symbolic tradition. The sunflowers are a take on the Green lion eating the sun, embodying the living world of nature as it feeds on heavenly light. In doing so it comes to resemble the image of the sun in the way that prophets and holy messengers become representative of Divine light. Exodus 34:29 Matthew 17:2 the sunflowers are being climbed by a gourd plant, a living vine that grows cups, these represent both fertility and the heart. Yet in Jonah 4:5-10 we are given a reminder that the gifts given by God should always be appreciated because all things given can be taken back. They back Hermiline as she is well blessed by these gifts. To the side of Rovel are three peonies these convey meekness in the the west and masculine bravery in the Orient, dual qualities that coalesce in his role as a loving and protective husband. The hyssop plants represent the purging of impurities. Numbers 19:18 Psalms 51:7 Hermiline and Rovel are foxes and Lilly is a rabbit. Yet in this humanized form the predator/prey relationship is transformed. She is feeding their children and she is loved and protected. The "peaceable kingdom" Isaiah 11:6-9 is not one of ignorance or beastial nature but one where knowledge crowns and tames nature into gentle cooperation and harmony.
