Mechanics of Agriculture

The Bistan Family, a group of crowned lemur (Eulemur coronatus) in their cocoa orchard receive a visit from a neighbor my giant otter shrew (Potamogale velox) character named Rakali.

Hannan: Hi Rikali!

Rikali: Peace widya.

Hannan: Anwidya.

Rikali: y'all having some problems with that robot?

Hannan: It busted again. Mama says Papa works on it more than it works for us.

Rikali: really? What's the plan Jehu, you looking to go fully automated? I see more and more of them metal spiders thumping around every time I pass by here.

Jehu: I got ten of'em buzzing around. Just this one causes me trouble. I gotta' keep up with expansion this whole area is booming now. I'm keeping up. Your little fish farm is going to start hurting as prices fall.

Rikali: I would rather be a farmer than a mechanic. You have more than money to consider, it's about doing what you enjoy.

Jehu: I have a family to think about I want to hand this off to them.

Rikali: and do they want to be farmers or clerks?

Basim: how do you mean?

Rikali: if you use robots you will spend your time in a workshop rather than in the orchard. Scale up from that and hire workers and you end up as a business clerk in a office instead of farming.

Jehu: or you can be poor as the dirt you work in.

Rikali: or you could pace emerging markets. I'm not staying with tilapia. I'm going to expand to rainbow fish as well as paratilapia bleekeri, and paratilapia polleni. All the expansion means markets open to delicatessens and hobbiests. While you tinker with robots and labor I will manage my farm and get to go on fun trips to meet with new clients. It takes more planning but if you work smarter you can make more money and still enjoy the pleasure of small farm life. It's all about what type of life you really want to live.

I liked drawings the big traveler's palm tree in the background as well as the cocoa trees I was just kind of playing around with them here but want to do more with both later.
